For sale: Sarasota home, 'harmless' ghost included

PUNTA GORDA, Florida (AP) - A southwest Florida couple says a "harmless" ghost is included in the sale of their historic home.

Natalie and Vander Wynn tell the Sarasota Herald-Tribune that they were alerted to the supernatural presence when they bought the Punta Gorda home in 2001.

The house was built in 1893 by businessman James Sandlin. His family was beset by a series of tragedies, including the 1909 death of his 14-year-old daughter in an accident with a gasoline-heated ironing appliance.

Burned, naked man dropped off at Sarasota hospital

SARASOTA, Florida (AP) - Authorities are trying to figure out why a naked man suffering from severe burns was dropped off at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The incident happened Saturday when a woman ran inside the hospital asking for help.

'Suspicious' substance at mall was woman's ashes

Sarasota, Florida -- There were tense moments on Tuesday at the Westfield Southgate Mall as police and hazmat crews responded to reports of a man who threw an unknown white powder inside a LensCrafters store and then fled.

"It's a pretty scary situation," shopper Debbie Shapiro told 10 News afterwards.  

Man in drag arrested in mistaken identity stabbing case

Sarasota, Florida -- A man dressed in drag and his boyfriend were arrested Wednesday after attacking a man in a case of mistaken identity.

Police say just before 1 a.m. Wednesday, a passerby told officers a man had been stabbed in the chest near 16th Street and North Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Scott Wilson holding his chest.  Wilson told officers he had just been stabbed by a man dressed as a woman.

Sarasota college student stranded at sea, swims to shore

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Sarasota marine biology student
from southern New Jersey said she's lucky to be alive following a
16-hour ordeal after she was swept out the sea.

Heather Barnes, 20, said she's not a strong swimmer, but somehow was
able to tread water for two-thirds of a day until she could be rescued.

"I feel like I cheated death or like I cheated the ocean out of something," said the Deptford native.

Man arrested for naked rampage inside home

Fort Myers, Florida (News-Press) -- A Venice man is facing several charges after allegedly going on a
naked rampage inside a couple's home in North Fort Myers Monday.

Gregory Matthew Bruni, 21, is facing charges of damage to property, burglary, battery and resisting an officer.

The victims told the Lee County Sheriff's Office they were inside around 6:50 p.m. when they heard noises on the roof.
