Construction to begin on north Sarasota neighborhood

Sarasota, FL -- Construction is scheduled to start this week on a nearly $2.2 million project for neighborhood enhancements in the north Sarasota area. Completion is expected in December 2011.

The project includes:

  • Construction of 2.5 miles of 5-foot-wide sidewalks on various streets in the area, which is bordered by 17th Street on the south, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way on the north, Mango Street on the west and 22nd Street on the east
  • Widening Euclid Avenue between 17th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way
  • Widening Mango Avenue from 19th Street to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way
  • Construction of two roundabouts on Euclid Avenue at the intersections of 21st and 24th streets
  • Addition of stormwater ponds and drainage facilities
  • Relocation of private utilities, including Aqua Utilities of Florida
