Precautionary boil water notice lifted for Siesta Key

Siesta Key, Florida -- On Sunday, Oct. 21, county officials lifter the precautionary boil water notice for those impacted by a broken water main on Siesta Key in the 6600 block of Stickney Point Road. 

The water main break on Oct. 18 caused a service interruption for approximately 2,600 Sarasota County Utilities customers. The county says bacteriological testing shows the water is safe to drink.

Sarasota, Florida – The Bayside Pet Resort and Spa is offering free pet portraits to 25 people Tursday, Oct. 18, from 3:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. 

The resort is hosting popular 20-year-old Sarasota pet photographer Emilee Fuss with a wine and cheese reception for pet parents. Fuss will be providing free 8 x 10 portraits for 25 pets.

Her pet photography can be seen throughout The Bayside Pet Resort & Spa.

Sarasota, Florida -- The weather will soon start cooling off giving you the desire to head back outdoors into the yard. To help get you started with your fall garden, the Sarasota County Master Gardeners will hold their 8th Annual Plant Sale Saturday, Oct. 13.

The plant sale will take place at Bee Ridge Park, 4430 Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The fall gardening event features sustainable gardening education, landscape problem diagnosis, and thousands of plants available for purchase.

Sarasota welcomes first Walmart Neighborhood Market

Sarasota, Florida -- Wal-Mart will open the first Walmart Neighborhood Market in Sarasota on Sept. 19. 

The new store will be located at 3500 N. Tamiami Trail and offer residents a convenient place to purchase their groceries, including fresh produce. It will also feature Site-to-Store service that will allow customers to ship online orders from www.walmart.com for pickup at any Walmart store for free.

The store will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

Trash collection remains same despite holiday

North Port, Florida -- The City of North Port wants residents to be aware that trash collection will not change for observance of Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3. City offices, however, will be closed due to the holiday.

Residential and commercial customers will have their garbage, recycling and yard waste picked up on their regular collection day. Please remember to place all garbage, yard waste, recyclables and scheduled bulk curbside before 7 a.m.

Neighborhood meeting for proposed Walmart Supercenter store

Sarasota, Florida -- The neighborhood along the Ringling Boulevard area near downtown Sarasota is invited to a community meeting to discuss the proposed Supercenter Walmart store.

A smaller version of Walmart's Supercenter stores is proposed for the space where Publix once occupied in the Ringling Shopping Center.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Payne Park Auditorium, 2100 E. Laurel St. The meeting runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Sarasota County issues new mowing schedule

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County has contracted a fourth company for roadside mowing and median maintenance. The county says Natural Designs Landscaping of Palmetto will maintain the North Urban Zone and will begin work Monday, Aug. 13.

The county has restructured its mowing program by dividing the county into four zones and contracting a landscaping company for each one.
