Sarasota County libraries adjust popular reserve and hold policy

Sarasota County, Florida -- In an effort to respond to the high demand of new and popular titles, as well as an increase in requests for items to be reserved for pickup, Sarasota County libraries have adjusted the number of days that reserved items will be held to seven business days (Monday-Saturday).

The ability to place a reserve online and select a pickup location is among the most popular services provided by the Sarasota County Library System. The number of reserve requests has increased steadily, from 163,000 in 2009 to 186,000 in 2012, a 12 percent increase.

Sarasota, Florida -- Starting March 7 The Pineapple Show begins in Sarasota. 

It is the 36th Annual Antique Show and Sale when over 40 quality dealers of glass and crystal come to sell. It will be held at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium at 801 North Tamiami Trail.

The dates of the show are:

March 7, 5 p.m.- 8 p.m.

March 8, 10 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.

March 9, 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

Cinderella Project now accepting "gently used" formal dresses

North Port, Florida -- The City of North Port says the Parks and Recreation Division and Every Child, Inc. are in the process of planning for the 5th annual Cinderalla Project, which provides dresses/gowns to young ladies who cannot afford to buy a gown for Prom.

Donations of quality new or "gently used" formal dresses, as well as accessories, can be dropped off at the George Mullen Activity Center no later than March 11, 2013.

North Port, Florida -- The City of North Port and the Sarasota County Extension Service Master Gardener Program have partnered to offer gardening classes to the citizens of the City of North Port.

"The Brown Bag Garden Series" is a series of specialized garden topic classes held every 4th Thursday. The classes will be presented by an Urban Horticulture Extension Agent and Master Gardener Coordinator or Master Gardeners.

County Tax Collector experiencing technical issues in North Port

North Port, Florida -- The Sarasota County Tax Collector's Office reports that due to an equipment problem, driver's license services and motor vehicle renewals are not available today, Jan. 23 in North Port.

The tax collector's office apologizes for the inconvenience and says staff members are still available at City Hall to answer any questions. Complete services are still being offered at the Venice location at the R.L. Anderson Building located at 4000 South Tamiami Trail.

County garbage collection delayed for holidays

Sarasota County, Florida -- Due to the Christmas and New Year's holidays, residents in unincorporated Sarasota County will see garbage collection in their neighborhood delayed by one day this week and next week.

Sarasota County Solid Waste officials will have all solid waste collections picked up by Saturday of each week.

"This happens four times a year, Christmas, New Years, July 4th and Thanksgiving, when we delay collection by one day," said Larry Alexander, manager Sarasota County Solid Waste. "We appreciate your patience and hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday."
