Sarasota, Florida -- Want to get smart with your money? Need to save for your child's college education or a dream vacation?

Here's your chance to meet some financial experts covering banking, investments, nonprofit agencies and retirement planning during Sarasota County's "Money Smart Week @ Your Library," from April 19-27.

Among the topics discussed include budgeting, navigating the Medicare system and preventing identity theft. All presentations are free.

North Port, Florida -- The Business and Professional Women of Englewood and Venice are accepting applications through April 30 for scholarships, in the amount of $1,000, for female adult learners in the 2013-2014 academic year. 

Female applicants should be from the Englewood/Venice area, residing in either Sarasota or Charlotte County.

North Port, Florida -- Delinquent tax penalties start in April and the Sarasota Tax Collector has some advice to avoid them. 

To avoid a penalty, property tax payments must be made soon. So far, 91.45 percent of the tax roll has been collected, totaling more than $622 million.

"There are many ways to pay your taxes and avoid a penalty," Tax Collector Barbara Ford-Coates noted.

Clearwater, Florida -- People who have SNAP dollars will see their money double at the Clearwater Gateway Farmers Market. 

Starting March 23, the Clearwater Gateway Farmers Market will begin offering "Market Double Dollars" which will increase Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) dollars.

At the market, $10 in SNAP dollars will buy $20 of eligible foods at vendor booths that accept SNAP and Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). Eligible foods include fruits, vegetables, breads, dairy, meat, seeds and plants that grow fruit.

Sarasota, Florida -- The weather will soon start cooling off giving you the desire to head back outdoors into the yard. To help get you started with your fall garden, the Sarasota County Master Gardeners will hold their 8th Annual Plant Sale Saturday, Oct. 13.

The plant sale will take place at Bee Ridge Park, 4430 Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The fall gardening event features sustainable gardening education, landscape problem diagnosis, and thousands of plants available for purchase.

$50 certificates will sell for $35, $25 certificates will sell for $17.50 and $15 certificates will sell for $12.50.
