Free 'Hope for Homeowners' event coming to Venice

Sarasota County, Florida -- Sarasota County homeowners who need help with foreclosures, bankruptcy and credit problems can attend a free Hope for Homeowners seminar from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Venice Community Center (326 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice).

Attendees will be able to discuss their personal financial situations one-on-one with financial and legal experts, such as Judge Lee Haworth and attorney Anne Weintraub, pro-bono attorneys, mortgage lenders and credit and housing counselors. Also, information on foreclosure assistance programs will be provided. The event is sponsored by Sarasota County and the Community Alliance of Sarasota County.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting up to six major hurricanes during the 2011 season, which often create surges and flooding. Siesta Sunset Royale beach house vacation rentals is holding a grand opening celebration on Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m. The small resort was recently purchased and remodeled.

Sarasota home sells for record $12.5 million

Sarasota, FL -- Coldwell Banker reports selling a record breaking $12.5 million home in Sarasota County.

The Longboat Key home at 825 Longboat Club Road is a nearly 12-thousand square foot mansion with beachfront property.

The home was built in 2002, it has four bedrooms, six full baths and two half baths.

Sarasota, FL -- Catholic Charities Housing Sarasota Inc. buys a 14 unit apartment complex at 1575 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way in the Newtown area of Sarasota for $500,000.

The purchase was reportedly funded through a $602,900 loan from the City of Sarasota.

The property was seized through foreclosure in April of last year. It last sold for $1.2 million dollars in 2006.

John Burns Consulting, a national real estate consulting firm, has ranked Lakewood Ranch the number two master-planned community in the state of Florida, just behind the Villages in Ocala.

John Burns Real Estate Consulting is a national source of independent housing research, advice and consulting. Its research is backed by detailed data, as well as proprietary tools and experienced professionals around the country.

The study also ranked the top 20 master-planned communities around the entire nation, and among those Lakewood Ranch ranked 12th.  “We are so proud of this top nationwide ranking,” said Milt Flinn, president of LWR Communities. “We know that our strategic master plan – incorporating our neighborhoods with amenities like parks and schools, shopping and recreation – is one of the key reasons why Lakewood Ranch is so successful.”

Progress Energy solar rebate program begins on March 15

St. Petersburg, FL -- Progress Energy has announced they will be giving out rebates to those customers, both residential and commercial, who install solar systems, either solar PV (photovoltaic) systems or solar water heaters.


However, the rebate money is limited and given on a first-come, first serve basis.  About $1 million has been allocated to residents, and another million to businesses, and another million to solar water heaters.  The program begins on March 15, and the application process is online.


Companies like Sarasota-based Eco-Technologies install the systems, and say time is of the essence.
