New noise ordinance

Sarasota, Florida -- The city of Sarasota has a new sound regulation dealing with unreasonable sound coming from motor vehicles. 

The ordinance took effect on April 1. Elements of the ordinance such as "plainly audible" sound and specific times of the day and night help law enforcement determine a violation. 

The ordinance states that unreasonable sound produced from within or upon motor vehicles heard plainly audible at a distance of fifty feet or more from the source of the sound.

Sarasota, Florida -- A drop in temperature to the low 30s after midnight has Sarasota County Emergency Management officials reminding residents to be prepared. 

"Temperatures are projected to drop rapidly on Wednesday," said Ed McCrane, Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief. "Depending on this afternoon's forecast, the National Weather Service may issue a wind chill advisory. It is important that the community prepare for colder than usual conditions by taking precautions to protect their homes, families and pets."

Longboat Key, Florida - The Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce has a new location and they're inviting the public to an open house. 

You can check out their new digs at 595 Bay Isles Road, Suite 120F, on March 26th from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.

There will be a ribbon cutting and drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota is going to debut its new Library System's redesigned website on March 26. 

The library website has the same features as the old one except it provides new features and quick and easy access to information. The library website averages 21-thousand unique visitors a month.

County Commission approves $1.3 million bathroom project

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County Commissioners approved a $1.3 million bathroom project for South Lido Beach Park. 

The new facility will hold 11 bathrooms including a family restroom,and be low maintenance using a composite deck, natural lighting and ventilation. The building will be 2,858 square feet and be elevated 14 feet.

Two similar bathroom projects have been completed at Caspersen and Manasota Beach.

Commissioners approve pricey potty

Sarasota, Florida -- The pricey potty has caused quite a stir, but plans for a new restroom at South Lido Beach Park have not been flushed.

On Wednesday, March 6, Sarasota County Commissioners approved moving forward with the project. The county says the existing restroom and concession stand at Ted Sperling Park do not meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for accessibility and have outlived their usefulness. 

Sarasota names county building after deputy county administrator

Sarasota names county building after deputy county administrator

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota's Health & Human Services building has a new name.

County commissioners have named the building after its Deputy County Administrator Bill Little in honor of his 44 years of public service.

The building will now be called, William L. Little Health & Human Services Center. The commission also issued a proclamation declaring Feb. 26 ad "Bill Little Day" in Sarasota County.
