Sarasota votes on new City Manager

Sarasota, Florida-- The City Commission announced Monday its unanimous vote to slate Thomas Barwin as the new City Manager of Sarasota.

A release from Sarasotagov.com explains that the consulting firm hired to facilitate the candidate search process will now negotiate a contract between Barwin and the City of Sarasota.

The contract is expected to be presented to the City Commission during a Special City Commission meeting Monday, July 30.

According to the release, Barwin was the Village Manager for the Village of Oak Park, IL from 2006 - 2012.

New voter information cards being mailed to all registered voters

Sarasota County, Florida -- Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent began mailing new voter information cards to all 280,000 registered voters Tuesday, July 10.

The SOE is required by law to mail new cards to every voter as a result of the 2010 federal census and subsequent redistricting process.

Dent says the new cards will contain vital information about a voter’s Congressional, State Senate, State House, County Commission, and local voting districts, as well as precinct and polling location information.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent has announced new voting precinct, polling location and district information is now available online at www.SarasotaVotes.com.

Registered Sarasota County voters may look up their personal voting information by using the “Precinct Finder” or “Voter Lookup” features on the SOE website.

City Manager search narrowed to 5 finalists

Sarasota, Florida -- The City Commission has announced it narrowed its search for a new City Manager to five finalists Monday during a Regular City Commission Meeting at City Hall. 

The finalists will be invited to Sarasota later this month for on-site interviews with the City Commission, Citizens Panel and Department Heads.

Suzanne Atwell to continue as Mayor

Sarasota, Florida -- The City Commission announced Friday that they have selected Mayor Suzanne Atwell to continue serving as mayor for the next year.

The decision was made at a Statutory Meeting held in the commission chambers at City Hall.

The commission says District 1 City Commissioner Willie Shaw was chosed to serve as Vice Mayor.

Sen. Nelson's aide schedules help session on Longboat Key

Longboat Key, Florida -- Diana McGee, area representative of U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), will be meeting with constituents in Longboat Key on Thursday, May 10.

Office hours will run from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at 501 Bay Isles Road. McGee will talk with people about their specific concerns and answer questions.
