Zoning change approved for new Englewood homes

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Commission has announced it has cleared the way for a 75-home development in Englewood by approving a zoning change for nearly 25 acres east of State Road 776 and south of Stoner Road.

Keyway Place will feature sidewalks and a recreation center with a pool. Future plans for the site include a nature preserve with a lake. The developer is Neal Communities.

Public meeting on proposed locations for Solid Waste and Recycling Transfer Station

North Port, Florida -- The City of North Port is hosting a community meeting to gather public input about possible locations for a Solid Waste and Recycling Transfer Station and Environmental Business Park.

The community meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 in the City Commission Chambers of North Port City Hall, 4970 City Hall Blvd.

At the meeting, possible site locations will be discussed in detail for a proposed Solid Waste and Recycling Transfer Station.

The qualifying period ended today, Jan. 11 at noon and the following candidates will appear on the ballot:

Sarasota County officials get sworn in, take action on number of items

Sarasota County, Florida -- Sarasota County Commissioners held their first meeting of the year on Jan. 8 and in addition to swearing in county officials they took action on a number of items.

The officials sworn in were Karen Rushing, Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller; Barbara Ford-Coates, Tax Collector; Kathy Dent, Supervisor of Elections; William Furst, Property Appraiser; Ed Brodsky, State Attorney; Tom Knight, Sheriff; and Larry Eger, Public Defender.

County to hold open houses on draft Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

Sarasota County will hold three open-house-style meetings in January on the draft Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. Attendees will have the opportunity to view the draft plan and maps identifying existing facilities and high-priority areas for improvements, and to ask questions and provide comments.
