Sarasota, Florida -- Congressman Vern Buchanan will host a women business owners panel on jobs and the economy this Friday, April 19th.

Over the past 16 years, the number of women-owned firms has grown 1½ times the national average, according to the 2013 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report.  Nationally, Florida ranks as the fourth most populous state for women-owned businesses.

Sarasota, Florida -- Congressman Vern Buchanan announced today that he will hold a forum on tax reform. 

The meeting takes place on March 29, at 11: a.m. It will be held at New College of Florida's Mildred Sainer Pavilion, 5313 Bay Shore Road.

The City of North Port will be hosting a series of conversational meetings, called "Community Conversation on Fiscal Sustainability," at the end of march and early April to open dialog and exchanged ideas regards to the coming fiscal year.

Sarasota, Florida -- Interest in the Sarasota 2013 municipal commissioners-at-large race is heating up already for the May run-off. The primary left Susan Chapman, Suzanne Atwell, and Richard Dorfman as the top vote-getters. Now they are in competition for the two open seats.

Sarasota Council Of Neighborhood Associations (CONA) has invited the three candidates surviving the March primary to a forum held as their regular meeting in April.

Sarasota, Florida -- U.S. Representative Vern Buchanan announced that he will host a forum on tax reform. 

Buchanan is Florida’s only member of the powerful U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, which is reviewing current federal income tax law and chairman of the small business working group.

Town voters stick with incumbents

Longboat Key, Florida - Voters in Longboat Key this week reelected Mayor Jim Brown and Commissioners Terry Gans and Phill Younger.

The race between Commissioner Gans and his opponent Irwin Pastor was extremely close. Only 27 votes separated the two for the one-year At-Large Seat.

In the two-year At-Large race, Commissioner Younger defeated Gene Jaleski by 479 votes.

Mayor Jim Brown takes office for a third term, handily defeating his opponent Larry Grossman.

Next week, commission members will choose a Mayor and Vice Mayor from among themselves.

Sarasota, Florida -- Congressman Vern Buchanan announced that he will hold a listening sessions on jobs, spending and the economy in Longboat Key on March 16.
