Sarasota Commission offers Randall Reid county administrator job

Sarasota, Florida -- Pending a satisfactory pre-employment background check and physical, the Sarasota County Commission approved hiring Randall Reid as the county administrator, replacing Interim County Administrator Terry Lewis on Dec. 1.

Currently the county manager in Alachua County, Reid will be paid $190,000 a year under terms of the contract.

Reid is expected to begin his new job no later than the end of January 2012. Commission Chair Nora Patterson will sign the contract after the successful completion of the pre-employment background check and physical.

Sarasota County, FL -- Sarasota County Commissioners will begin contract discussions with Randall Reid for the position of county administrator. He currently is county manager in Alachua County.

Terry Lewis has been serving as interim county administrator following the resignation of James Ley in May.

The selection follows two public meetings with the four administrator candidates Sunday and Monday. Commissioners also interviewed the candidates during a public meeting today before voting to begin contract discussions with Reid.

Sarasota County, FL -- A $1.6 million grant to enhance the absentee voting process for military and overseas citizens has been awarded to a 13-county coalition of supervisors of elections, which includes Sarasota County.

According to Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent, the Electronic Absentee Systems for Elections (EASE) grant was awarded on Nov. 10 by the Federal Voting Assistance Program.

New town manager now at work

Longboat Key, Florida - There's a new picture on the town's website and a new manager in the office. Dave Bullock reported to work this week.

Bullock, who spent 17 years with Sarasota County, takes over as interim town manager. Commissioners gave Bullock a one-year contract, with the option of those terms being renewed, if commissioners approve of his performance.

Sarasota County Commissioners have scheduled an additional discussion session, if needed, for the selection of a county administrator from 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17.

Commissioners will hold public interviews with the candidates from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15. Following the interviews, commissioners will rank the candidates and decide whether to offer one of them a contract as administrator. Commissioners may use the additional time on Thursday for discussion.

Sarasota County Commissioners will hold two public sessions for the community to meet candidates for county administrator on Sunday, Nov. 13, and Monday, Nov. 14. Commissioners will hold public interviews with the candidates from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Following the interviews, commissioners will rank the candidates and decide whether to offer an administrator contract. The first public "Meet and Greet" session will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 at the Venice Community Center, 326 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice.

Each candidate will be given an opportunity to talk about their experience, followed by a 45-minute period for questions from the public. The meeting will be moderated by a representative of The Mercer Group, which is conducting the administrator search for Sarasota County. Candidates and the public then will have about an hour to socialize.
