Commission approves anti-fraud policy, funding for playgrounds

Sarasota County, FL -- The Sarasota County Commission approved the following items at their Jan. 10 meeting.

Anti-Fraud Policy

Commissioners approved a resolution that would implement an Anti-Fraud Policy for Sarasota County government. The policy would prohibit fraudulent activity, advise county staff and elected officials about their responsibility to report suspected fraudulent activity, spell out reporting procedures, provide non-retaliation protection and define sanctions for employees and administrators.

Venice, FL -- Venice leaders won't narrow their search for a city manager until next year.

Of the 10 candidates for the position, Venice City Council members will receive detailed information about the five finalists this week. Those five will travel to the city in mid-January for interviews.

VENICE, FL -- Once per year, Venice City Council members and Sarasota County commissioners meet for a joint session. At the most recent meeting, local leaders pushed specific goals for the completion of the U.S. 41 bypass around Venice.

Venice council members unanimously want the road to have six lanes with intersections operated by traditional traffic signals.

Other plans proposed roundabouts at intersections in lieu of traffic signals, costing roughly $14 million more.

Public meeting for changes on State Road 758/Midnight Pass

Sarasota, Florida -- Siesta Key's main drag can be a drag for pedestrians and the Florida Department of Transportation is proposing some changes to make it safer for pedestrians.

FDOT wants to put in a series of small islands in the center of the road to improve pedestrian safety. You can find out more about the project at a public meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

It takes place at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, located at 5394 Midnight Pass Road.

The meeting runs from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with the state presentation at 6 p.m.
