Telephone Town Hall Meetings begin May 3

North Port, Florida -- The first in a series of Telephone Town Hall meetings is set to begin Thursday, May 3, offering residents of North Port an opportunity to directly communicate with their elected leaders without ever leaving their homes.

The First Telephone Town Hall will begin at 6 p.m. on May 3 and will be hosted by North Port City Commission Chair Tom Jones.

During this time, residents will have an opportunity to participate in an open forum where they can ask questions about general topics and issues of interest.

Committee to study proposed community center

Committee to study proposed community center

Longboat Key, Florida -- Before town commissioners make any decisions about the proposed community center, a committee will be formed to study the issue.

At a recent meeting, commissioners said they'd like to have more information and citizen input on the redevelopment plans for Bayfront Park. The process of forming that committee could begin as soon as next week.

Longboat Key, Fla. -- Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent will offer early voting for the March 20 Town of Longboat Key General Election. Early voting begins on Saturday, March 10 and runs through Friday, March 16.

During the early voting period, eligible voters (those who reside in the Town of Longboat Key) may cast their ballots at the Longboat Key Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road, between the hours of 9 a.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Longboat Key, FL -- Residents of the Town of Longboat Key must be registered to vote by Tuesday, Feb. 21 to be eligible to vote in the March 20 Town of Longboat Key General Election.

New voter registrations must be postmarked by Feb. 21 or delivered in person to any supervisor of elections office no later than 5 p.m., Feb. 21.

Supervisor of Elections (SOE) Kathy Dent urges all voters to verify and/or update their registration information prior to election day. Changes/updates may be made as follows:

City appoints interim city manager

City appoints interim city manager

Sarasota, FL -- The City Commission has announced it voted unanimously to appoint Terry Lewis as Interim City Manager.

The vote took place Friday morning during a Special Commission Meeting. An employment agreement will be drafted for the City Commission to consider in the near future.

Lewis replaces former City Manager Bob Bartolotta who was asked to resign Tuesday after being accused of computer fraud and violating public records laws by spying on auditors and accessing secret emails tied to an ongoing federal investigation.
