Improved online permitting for local contractors begins October 7

Sarasota, County, Florida -- Beginning Oct. 7, local contractors will be able to save time and money by applying for building permits through Sarasota County Planning and Development Services Department updated online system at www.building.scgov.net. Current registered users will have full access to the new site; however contractor agents will need to create a new, one-time only free registration.  

By cutting down the time it takes to apply for and receive a building permit, we are helping contractors grow their business and create jobs.

Sarasota County elections office to host Secretary of State Detzner and Project Integrity team

Sarasota County, Florida -- Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent will host the fourth in a series of roundtable discussions between Secretary of State Ken Detzner and local supervisors of elections.

The meetings have been scheduled to assess and develop appropriate procedures related to statutory voter list maintenance programs.

Supervisor of elections schedules voter registration drives

Sarasota County, Florida -- In celebration of National Voter Registration Day, September 24, 2013, the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections office will be conducting a number of voter drives during the week of September 23-27.

SOE staff will be out in the community to remind people of the importance of registering to vote and ensuring their voter information is current with the elections office.

Sarasota County, Florida -- Sarasota County Neighborhood Services is now accepting applications for the fall session of its popular Civics 101 program.  

Civics 101 offers residents a behind-the-scenes look at the everyday operations of their local government. Participants will have an opportunity to see county government operations firsthand, including the Sarasota County Commission, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Libraries, Emergency Management, Communications and more.

Sarasota chosen as 1 of 6 Florida Communities In Youth Challenge

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota is one of six Florida community to accept a challenge to build new way to get young people "Ready by 21" for college, work and life.

The challenge comes from the Washington-based for Youth Investment. 

Other Florida cities include Orlando, Pinellas County/St. Petersburg, Hillsborough County/Tampa, Palm Beach County and Broward County.
