CVS customer tackles would be robber

Sarasota, FL - On April 13th, 2014 officers responded to the CVS located at 2773 Fruitville Road in reference to an armed robbery.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, 65-year-old Freddie Johnson walked into the store with a bandanna over his face and threatened the clerk at the front of the store. He then walked to the pharmacy, in the back of the store, and demanded Oxycodone and Hydromorphone all while keeping his hand in his pocket implying he had a gun.

The pharmacists behind the counter complied with Johnson and placed the drugs on the counter. Johnson then demanded a bag while grabbing the drugs and was then taken down by a customer in the store at the time of the incident. The customer was able to keep Johnson down until police arrived on scene.

Johnson has been charged with one count of armed robbery and he also faces one count of armed robbery in connection with the Hedges Pharmacy robbery that occured on February 27th, 2014.
