AMBER ALERT issued for 5-month-old in Sarasota

Sarasota, Florida -- A little baby girl is safe after an Amber Alert was issued in her disappearance Thursday morning.

Sarasota Police say around 1 a.m. Thursday, Lucio Martinez-Lopez told officers his wife Teresa Martinez-Lujano had been taken to the hospital for a medical emergency where she later passed away from natural causes.

Lucio told officers Teresa, his daughter Brianna, and Teresa's boyfriend Aldequndo Benitez-Caivillo checked into the Cadillac Motel on N Tamiami Trail shortly before she was taken to the hospital and that he was concerned with her passing, Aldequndo would take Brianna out of the state. Aldequndo and the child were last seen at the motel around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

After leads to find Aldequndo and Brianna ran cold, police issued a BOLO for the two and his vehicle.

Once Sarasota Police confirmed Lucio as Brianna's father when he presented them with a birth certificate and pictures of Brianna with Aldequndo, officers contacted the FDLE who issued an Amber Alert around 7 a.m. today.

A family member of Aldequndo's saw the Amber Alert and called the Manatee County Sheriff's Office with his location. He and Brianna were located around 9 a.m. at a home in the 1400 block of 24th Street East in Palmetto.

The child is currently in DCF custody.
