County Library System upgrades computer catalog

Sarasota, Florida -- If you tried to access the Sarasota County Library System this morning you might not have had any luck. It's because the computer catalog was shut down in order to upgrade the software used to keep track of library card information and the more than 1 million items circulated annually.

The upgrade started at 10 a.m. and is expected to take approximately six hours. Access to eBooks, eAudiobooks and eVideos will not be affected by this upgrade process.

"Due to the complexity of the upgrade, it had to be scheduled during normal operating hour," said Melisse Hypponen, information technology specialist for library administration. "This upgrade provides the groundwork for future catalog and system improvements."

Library customers must have their library cards with them in order to check out materials while the system is offline. This will allow library staff to check out materials manually while the system is unavailable.
