Sarasota welcomes home high wire performer

Sarasota, Florida -- The man who made the historic walk across Niagara Falls back in June returned home to a warm welcome in Sarasota Friday.

Sarasota County Commission Chair Christine Robinson met Nik Wallenda at the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport Friday morning and proclaimed Oct. 19 Nik Wallenda Day in Sarasota County.

On June 15, 2012, 16 million people watched Wallenda become the first person to cross Niagara Falls from the United States to Canada on a high wire during a live broadcast. Other feats include crossing above Nascar in Charlotte and between two casinos in Atlantic City.
