Student-staffed Bistro 502 at SCTI to reopen for lunch

Sarasota, Florida -- Bistro 502, a restaurant staffed by high school and adult students in the Commercial Foods and Culinary Arts Program at the Sarasota County Technical Institute, will open its doors to the public for the 2012-13 school year at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The facility will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays throughout the school year, with some exceptions. Bistro 502 is located on the SCTI campus at 4748 Beneva Road.

The menu will change periodically, starting with a menu of Spanish, Mediterranean and California cuisine through Oct. 25.

The restaurant will be closed the week of Oct. 28 and will reopen Tuesday, Nov. 6, with the popular original menu of items served when Bistro 502 first opened in March 2011. These selections will include Cobb Salad, Brie & Apple French Toast Panini, Smoked Honey "Club" Steak (N.Y. Strip), Herbs De Provence Crusted Swai with Roasted Garlic Compound Butter, Sautéed Polenta & Vegetables Napoleon with Smoked Tomato Coulis, Pumpkin Crème Brulee and Macadamia Nut Crust Key Lime Pie.

Following the winter break, Bistro 502 will reopen in late January with a menu inspired by French cuisine, followed by Italian food from late March to mid-April and Asian Fusion cuisine from late April to late May.

“We’re excited about our menus this year,” said Chef Brian Knecht, who directs the Commercial Foods and Culinary Arts Program. “The students look forward to tackling new culinary challenges and to serving new and returning customers at Bistro 502.”
