Sarasota artists create feisty fashions | News
Sarasota, Florida - With long strips of plastic and a large needle, slowly but surely Lisa Berger is weaving two of her passions-Art and fashion.
"I have to watch what I'm doing at all times," she says as a dress starts to take shape.
Berger is creating an outfit for the upcoming iconcept fashion show. And it's pretty amazing that her Chanel-look suit started out as a pile of plastic. "This is actual newspaper bags," she says holding up the jacket. "Sometimes we get a Sunday bag that's blue."

Berger's among 28 artists sewing for the runway and she says it's always exciting to see her designs deliver.
"You want the audience, when the model comes from back stage, to go 'Wow,'" she says with a smile.
The iconcept fashion show is a major fundraiser for Art Center Sarasota and in years past, the event where "Art Walks the Runway" has also meant a walk on the wild side.
"We have things like bubble wrap and recycled bicycle tires and trash bags and things like that just turn into these beautiful works of art that walk the runway," says this year's creative director Cat Pennenga. "It's definitely a very interesting experience."
While Art Center Sarasota hosts a variety of exhibitions, it also provides art instruction for all ages and money raised from the fashion show will help support those programs.
"It helps us raise money for all the scholarships we give to kids and for the adult classes as well, because no one is excluded from Art Center Sarasota," says the center's Gail Schilke.
And when it comes to raising money, next week's runway, will be a fun way.
The event takes place on Friday, March 30th, from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Art Center Sarasota is located at 707 N. Tamiami Trail. Tickets range from $40 to $75. The evening includes a red carpet arrival, light snacks, drinks and entertainment. For more information click here.
