Sarasota, Florida -- As the high school football season approaches, a new program plans to make it easier to determine when it is safe for Sarasota County public high school football players and cheerleaders to return to the field after suffering a concussion.

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Health Department's Health In Motion Mobile Medical Unit staff will provide free and low-cost health services at eight sites around the county during August.

Services also will be available at the Ready, Set, Grow! Infant to Kindergarten Family Fair on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Westfield Sarasota Square Mall, 8201 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The fair will be held at the mall's main entrance between JCPenney and Yoder's Marketplace.

Beach advisory issued for Lido Casino Beach

Sarasota, Florida -- A beach water advisory has been issued for the Lido Casino Beach.

Sarasota County Health Department officials say they received testing results from beach water samples taken on Wednesday, Aug. 1, that show an elevated level of enterococci (enteric) bacteria.

Signage advising the public not to swim or engage in water recreation at the Lido Casino Beach will remain in place until follow-up water testing results meet the Environmental Protection Agency recreational water safety standards.

Kid's Yoga at Mineral Springs

North Port, Florida -- The Warm Mineral Springs has announced an addition to an already crowded weekly free activity schedule at the natural wellness resort.

Kids Yoga Classes will soon be offered at the springs every Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 22.

For years, every day at the springs, several classes have been offered for adults - all free with a paid admission. The KAY (Kidding Around Yoga) classes are the first specifically designed for kids.

Water main repair affects nearby businesses

Venice, Florida -- Sarasota County says several businesses in the 1600 block of U.S. 41 By-Pass in Venice have lost water service.

The county says crews are installing a tap in the water main discovered a problem with the line and shut it down to repair it. Water service is expected to be restored this afternoon.

Water warnings lifted for Sarasota beaches

Sarasota, Florida - It's safe to go in the water again. Sarasota County health officials have lifted a water advisory for Lido, Turtle and North Jetty Beaches.

Residents and visitors may return to swimming and other water sports at these beach sites and the "no swim" beach water advisory signs have been removed.

Get school shots updated now before school year begins

Sarasota, Florida -- With local schools scheduled to resume on Monday, Aug. 20, Sarasota County public health and school officials want to remind parents to get their child's immunizations updated now.

Parents of children who will be entering schools in Sarasota County for the first time must provide the school office with a completed Florida Certification of Immunization (DH 680).
