University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Campus to hold USF Day

Sarasota, Florida -- Here's a chance to get to know the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Campus. There will be an open house on Saturday April 14, from 2 - 6 p.m. in the courtyard campus.

The event is sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA) and the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee. The free event will include games, a bounce house, dance heads, balloon art, spray can art, food, campus tourst, information about classes and more.

SARASOTA, Florida -- In a decade spent in Afghanistan, it was the worst single-day loss of life for U.S. forces.

In August, 22 Navy SEALs were killed in a massive helicopter crash, including the son of a Sarasota man.

"I never really worried about him that much, because he was so trained," Scott Bill said.

Sarasota, Florida -- St. Armands Circle Park comes to light and life this Friday evening.

The 33rd Annual Holiday Night of Lights kicks off the holiday season in the shopping district.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a Christmas carol sing-a-long. Then be on the lookout for Santa to arrive in his sleigh. And finally a tree lighting ceremony tops off the night.

Photos of Santa are available throughout the evening.

Venice, FL -- On Wednesday, Dec. 1, come downtown to get into the spirit and enjoy live entertainment, food and drinks, specials, and of course, holiday decor at its finest.

The luminaries and window displays are always crowd pleasers.

All avenues participate. Come see Santa Claus on this magical evening. He'll be in the breezeway on Miami Avenue.

The event runs from 5:30 - 8 p.m.

Siesta Key Village lights up this weekend

Siesta Key, Florida -- Siesta Key Village brightens on Saturday with the lighting of a Christmas tree and the arrival of Santa.

A holiday parade kicks the season off. The procession begins at Siesta Public Beach and then travels north on Beach Road. Santa will arrive by fire truck at the Village at about 6:15 p.m.

Children can give Santa their lists and the first 250 kids will receive gift bags.

There will also be music, face painting and other family fun.

The event runs from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
