City hosts 9th Annual Freedom Festival Wednesday

North Port, Florida -- The City of North Port will host the 9th Annual Freedom Festival, which promises fun and entertainment for the entire family.

The festival will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4 on the football field at North Port High School, 6400 West Price Boulevard.

At the opening ceremony, AmVets Post 312 will present the flag, Linda Zick and Jane Wyban will sing the National Anthem. American Made, a local band, will perform on the main stage. Outstanding dancers from the Dance with Janice Team will also provide upbeat performances.

Fire Rescue warns of fireworks dangers

North Port, Florida -- To keep the public safe from fireworks-related injuries and deaths, North Port Fire Rescue and the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) urge everyone to treat fireworks, whether legal or illegal for consumers, as suitable only for use by trained professionals.

Fireworks use by the general public endangers not only the users, but also bystanders and surrounding property and structures. Pyrotechnic devices ranging from sparklers to aerial rockets cause thousands of fires and serious injuries each year.

City to host T-Rec Fun Day

North Port, Florida -- All teens and adults with disabilities are invited to a free afternoon of activities and fun.

The T-Rec Coalition of Sarasota County in partnership with the City of North Port invites you to the T-Rec Fun Day on Saturday, May 26, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the George Mullen Activity Center.

Make new friends and reconnect with others. Participate in arts and crafts, play pickleball, basketball and board games. Caregivers and family members are welcome. Light refreshments will be available.

Coast Guard to host open house

North Port, Florida -- The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 92 will be hosting a free open house event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 20.

The event is honor of National Safe Boating Week, which spans from May 19 through May 25. It will be held at their building at Marina Park, 7030 Chancellor Boulevard.

North Port to host 5th Annual Second Nature Environmental Festival

North Port, Florida -- The City of North Port will host the 5th Annual Second Nature Environmental Festival on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

This is the first year this annual event will be held at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park located on 6968 Reistertown Road. 

Come learn about Florida's wildlife, plants, trees & heritage with the help of the City arborist, Sarasota County park naturalists, archaeologists and more. Learn how to appropriately prune a tree, or experience a beautiful hike on one of the trails provided.
