Allyn Gallup presents "Some Wonderful Abstractions"

Sarasota, Florida -- Allyn Gallup Contemporary Art gallery presents “Some Wonderful Abstractions,” featuring paintings and works on paper by Luisa Basnuevo, Michael Kessler, Juri Morioka, Gustavo Ramos Rivera, Yolanda Sanchez, Richard Schemm, Mike Solomon and Valerie Stuart.

The exhibit also features a survey of paintings by Bianca Pratorius with selections from three bodies of work created over 15 years and sculpture by Mary-Ann Prack.

Sarasota County, Florida -- Sarasota County Neighborhood Services is now accepting applications for the fall session of its popular Civics 101 program.  

Civics 101 offers residents a behind-the-scenes look at the everyday operations of their local government. Participants will have an opportunity to see county government operations firsthand, including the Sarasota County Commission, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Libraries, Emergency Management, Communications and more.

Sarasota County will hold its annual free community cleanup in the Newtown area of Sarasota from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10.

Venice, Florida -- Suncoast Humane Society is currently accepting 2014 Pet Calendar Photo Contest Entries!

Entries will be judged by an independent panel with 1 photo selected for the front cover, 1 for the back cover, each month will feature a Pet of the Month and 4 honorable mentions. 

All photos will be featured in the calendar. Each entry is $25 and receives a free calendar.

County asks for time capsule submissions to be opened in 2071

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota Library officials are asking for your help in putting together a time capsule to be open in 2071.

Sarasota residents are asked to submit a one-page essay, drawing, or black and white photo describing what life is like in 2013 in Sarasota County and/or what they think life will be like in 2071.

Each submission should include the submitter's name, age, address and phone number. A panel of judges will decide whose entry will make it inside the time capsule.

Sarasota, Florida --- The first day of the new school year is just one month away that means it's time to start thinking about getting your child's shots up to date. Schools in Sarasota begin Aug. 19.

Parents of children entering a Sarasota County school for the first time must provide the school with a completed Florida Certification of Immunization (CH 680).

Listed below is the total number of doses of each required vaccine for which proof of immunization is needed.

Venice, Florida -- The Downton Abbey Support Group formed in June and meets to watch episodes of the acclaimed TV show as well as movies that focus on that time period. 

Join the group as they watch a movie based in an English estate and tells the lives of upstairs guest and the downstairs servants.
