Longboat Key, FL -- Besides worship and prayers, you may find some toe-tapping going on at the Longboat Island Chapel this Sunday.

The church is holding its annual jazz service.

The 10 a.m. service will feature drummer Al Hixon and some of his usual band mates. With Valentine's Day coming up, the theme of the service is also love.

The interfaith chapel is located at 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

This weekend hundreds of graduates and faculty will come together to celebrate its anniversary.

New College is Florida's designated-honors college for liberal arts.

New College graduates include; scientists, engineers, politicians, business professionals and entertainers.

50th anniversary events run through Sunday.

Sarasota, Florida - Deeply in love? How about diving into some new information on Valentine's Day.

At Mote Marine Laboratory, marine biologist Helen Scales will lecture about seahorses and their love life on February 14th. The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $24 and on sale now on the Mote website.

The seahorse lecture is part of a series presented on Monday evenings in February and March, featuring world-famous speakers.

Venice, Florida -- The Venice Community Center is full of love for your valentine with a brunch from noon–2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 13, provided by Java Catering and Florist. The center is located at 326 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice.

After the brunch, you can hit the dance floor with that special someone as The Flashbacks featuring Sonny and Sable provide the music. Tickets are $18 per person and include brunch and a Mimosa or Bloody Mary. Reservations are required and space is filling up fast. A beer and wine cash bar also will be available.

Giveaways this week for credit union opening

Sarasota, FL -- Achieva Credit Union held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new, full-service Sarasota branch this morning.

The branch, located at 1852 Hillview Street, in Sarasota, just south of Sarasota Memorial Hospital, has grand opening festivities planned for this week.

Each day will have a different theme with prize wheel giveaways, gift certificates, food and beverages, and a grand prize drawing of an iPad will be made on Saturday, Feb. 5 at noon.

Volunteers needed for MS events

Riverview, FL-- The National MS Society Mid-Florida Chapter is looking for families, corporations and individuals that want to support their community and have fun at the same time by taking part in Walk MS 2011 and Bike MS: The Citrus Tour 2011.


Registration for the chapter's eight walks and bike events is now open, with the goal of raising $1.47 million, which is $50,000 more than was raised in 2010.


The events support those in the community suffering with Multiple Sclerosis and help to fund educational programs, self-help groups, research, medical equipment, loan closets, transportation, literature, referrals, information and advocacy.
