Get rid of old prescription drugs on Drug Take Back day - October 26

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota Police Department is one of many local law enforcement agencies taking part in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 7th Annual Prescription Drug Take Back.

The event will be held Saturday, October 26th from 10 a.m. until 2  p.m.

This one-day event is a chance for people to remove potentially dangerous prescription drugs from the homes of our community.

This event is a chance for the public to voluntarily turn in expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction with no questions asked.

Medicines kept in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse and theft. Unfortunately, most people who abuse prescriptions get them from friends and family. Flushing medications down the toilet or throwing them in a trash can even be harmful and cause health hazards to humans and animals. It’s why law enforcement is encouraging people to drop-off their unused medications during this event.

Collection locations will be set up throughout Sarasota County with two drop-off locations with the Sarasota Police Department, two drop-off locations with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and drop-off locations with the New College Police Department, North Port Police Department and the Venice Police Department.
