Family sustainability events to be held Friday at county libraries

Sarasota, Florida -- Families are invited to learn about how to make sustainability improvements in their lives while receiving a free starter Family Sustainability Kit at events Friday, July 12, at two county libraries. North Port Library and Selby Library will launch the newly available kits with  guest speaker Julie Radlauer-Doerfler, creator of the Easy Going Green Flash Cards.

The first event starts at 10:30 a.m. at North Port Library, 13800 S. Tamiami Trail,  North Port. The same event will then be held at 2 p.m. at Selby Library, 1331 First St., Sarasota.

Radlauer-Doerfler will talk about creating a fun family activity using the flash cards, and how the cards can help to educate children on the importance of conservation and sustainability efforts. Following the talk, children will be invited to create their own Easy Going Green flash cards.

All attendees will receive a free starter kit that includes sustainability activities and items for children, as well as information on saving energy and water at home. Also included in the kit are devices to help families start achieving savings immediately, such as an ENERGY STAR compact fluorescent light bulb, a WaterSense faucet aerator, a wall switch and outlet insulating gaskets. The starter kits will be available while supplies last.
