FWC, Sarasota officials hold seminar on coyotes

Sarasota, Florida -- Coyotes in your backyard? It's possible that's why biologists from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Sarasota County officials will host "Coyotes in Florida". The free seminar will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, March 25 at the Sarasota County Operations Center located at 1001 Sarasota Center Blvd.

FWC experts will give homeowners tips on how to coexist with the animals and answer questions about coyote behavioral patters. Since the animals are instinctively afraid of humans experts say contact with people is rare. But experts say coyotes are intelligent and can easily adapt to living in developed areas losing their fear of humans.

Anyone who sees an aggressive coyote should report it to the regional FWC office at 863-648-3200 or call the FWC wildlife hotline at 1-888-404-3922.
