Goodwill's Going Green for the Community

Sarasota, Florida -- In keeping with the spirit of Earth Day on April 22, Goodwill Manasota is launching its “Goodwill’s Going Green for the Community" initiative.

According to Bob Rosinsky, president and CEO of Goodwill Manasota, this venture combines doing good for people in the community with doing good for the planet.

“Our goal is to consume less energy, decrease pollution, and reduce our carbon footprint,” says Rosinsky.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County officials report recent beach water samples found high levels of red tide algae. Experts say prevailing southerly winds earlier this week are believed to have contributed to the resurgence of red tide in the County.

The folllowing beaches had higher levels of red tide algae: Siesta Beach, Turtle Beach, Nokomis Beach, North Jetty, Venice Beach, Service Club Park, Venice Fishing Pier, Brohard Beach, Caspersen Beach and Manasota Beach.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Park Services department has announced the launch of their new, free mobile application, which will serve as an interactive guide for users on the go at any of Florida's 171 parks, trails and historic sites.

Venice, Florida -- UPDATE: Sarasota County has lifted the boil water advisory affecting about 120 residents and the clubhouse at the Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice.

The County says bacteriological testing shows the water is now safe to drink.

Sarasota, Florida -- Start your spring cleaning early this year. Sarasota County holds its annual free community cleanup in the Nokomis area from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9.

Check your garage, your closets and yards for items you just don't need or use anymore that are taking up space.

Dumpsters will be located at three locations:

Public meeting on proposed locations for Solid Waste and Recycling Transfer Station

North Port, Florida -- The City of North Port is hosting a community meeting to gather public input about possible locations for a Solid Waste and Recycling Transfer Station and Environmental Business Park.

The community meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 in the City Commission Chambers of North Port City Hall, 4970 City Hall Blvd.

At the meeting, possible site locations will be discussed in detail for a proposed Solid Waste and Recycling Transfer Station.
