Reef balls help Sarasota Bay

Reef balls help Sarasota Bay

Sarasota, Florida - They're big and bulky and have a funny name-reef balls. But they are also a great way to attract and grow fish.

The Sarasota Bay Estuary Program (SBEP) recently dropped 36 reef balls on three existing artificial reefs in Sarasota Bay. The reef balls, or habitat modules, are designed to attract young reef fish. The balls provide a safe place for the young fish to mature.

Reef Innovations of Sarasota constructed the reef balls with help from Riverview High School Students and Boy Scouts from Troop 14.
