Sarasota County Staff Monitoring Seaweed on Siesta Key Beach

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County Parks and Recreation staff are keeping an eye on seaweed that has been washing ashore on parts of Siesta Key.

According to the county's policy, workers wait to tidal cycles before cleaning up the beach because the tide will usually wash it back out. If the seaweed remains on the beach after the second tidal cycle ad is more than five cubic yards large and is covering a two mile stretch of beach county workers will clean up the beach.
