Newgate School celebrates visiting students

Sarasota, Florida -- Newgate School is celebrating Earth Day with students from Mexico as part of their annual student exchange program.

Students from Colegio Montessori Chiaravalle, a school in León, arrived safely this past Monday.

“This exchange program, a two week - immersion for the Upper Elementary (4th – 6th grade)NewGate students, has been an enormous success. Friendships were cultivated last year and we can see significant advances in interest in the Spanish language and culture,” stated Robin Howe, a NewGate Upper Elementary Teacher.

The eight Mexican students come from Leon, a metropolitan city with a population area including the surrounding suburbs of over 1.6 million, making it the 7th largest metropolis in Mexico.  León a city founded in 1576 is known for its exportation of leather goods, in fact 60% percent of all the shoes produced in Mexico are from there. León is also known for being one of the most environmentally friendly cities with a high number of cyclists cruising through their integrated transportation network.

The NewGate School will hold an Earth Day Celebration tomorrow Saturday April 20th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on our campus located at 5237 Ashton Road, Sarasota, FL 34233.
