Water main repair affects nearby businesses

Venice, Florida -- Sarasota County says several businesses in the 1600 block of U.S. 41 By-Pass in Venice have lost water service.

The county says crews are installing a tap in the water main discovered a problem with the line and shut it down to repair it. Water service is expected to be restored this afternoon.

Sarasota County is issuing a precautionary boil water notice advisory urging customers to boil all water intended for drinking, preparation of food, washing of food utensils, making ice, brushing teeth or first aid. Residents should boil the water for at least one minute to make sure it is safe to use.

The county will collect a series of samples and analyze them to ensure the drinking water wasn't contaminated by potentially harmful bacteria during the service interruption. Customers will be notified by automated telephone calls that the boil water advisory has been canceled.
