'Joy of Jazz' concert in Centennial Park

Venice, FL -- The Al Hixon Jazz Group will headline the Jazz Club of Sarasota's “Joy of Jazz" concert, Sunday, Feb, 19.

The concert, that runs 2 - 4 p.m., in Centennial Park in downtown Venice, is free but donations are accepted in support of the Jazz Club’s scholarship fund.

This concert is part of the Jazz Club's "Joy of Jazz" series, which is made possible, in part, from support from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice and Verizon.

Sarasota's Booker High jazz groups to present 'Death by Chocolate' event

Sarasota, FL -- The Booker High School VPA Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will present "Death by Chocolate", an indulgent evening of jazz and delectable treats, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3 and 4, at Booker High School.

Seatings will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and at 7 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

A $10 ticket provides entry into the show and unlimited servings of chocolate and coffee.

Venice, FL -- Venice Theatre is offering a series of nostalgic concerts that will have audiences tapping their feet and singing along.

The Diamonds take to the stage on Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Known best for their hit “Little Darlin”, The Diamonds entertain with four-part harmonies, humor, lively choreography and rich instrumentals. Their blast-from-the-past celebration features ‘60s rock ‘n’ roll hits like “Why Do Fools Fall in Love,” “The Stroll” and “Silhouettes.” Tickets are $37.

‘Buddy & Beyond’ hits the stage at the Venice Community Center

Venice, FL -- Johnny Rogers will be performing the greatest hits of Buddy Holly and other music legends at the Venice Community Center on Jan. 13.

Buddy Holly’s stellar career took him to the pinnacle of rock and roll in just 18 months. He died tragically in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959, but his influence would be felt for generations through the works of artists like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton.

The tribute concert starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and $20 and they are going fast, so don’t delay.

Selby Public Library celebrates new Teen Center with Band Bash

Sarasota, Florida -- The new Teen Center at Selby Public Library, 1331 First St., Sarasota, was unveiled in an official ceremony earlier this month, and now it's time for the teens to celebrate with a party.

Some of the area's hottest teen bands and DJs will perform at the Selby Band Bash, from 6:30 - 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7. Scheduled performers include Siege of Malakand, The GarbageMen, UnEven LaNes, Let's Rock Sarasota/Music School of Rock, the Sarasota Youth Opera and DJs from More Than Music.
