Sarasota Summer Camp Registration Opens April 1

Sarasota, Florida -With just a couple of months left in the school year it's time to think of what the kids will be doing this summer.

Registration for Sarasota's summer camps begins April 1. The Sarasota County parks and Recreation summer camps are offered over 11 weeks for children entering grades 1 through 10.

The camps are open from 7:30 a.m. to as late as 5:45 p.m. The county offers a traditional camp from June10-July 5 and July 8-August 2.

Venice, Florida -- For the third consecutive year, Tom Becker will be presenting his tribute to singer-songwriter John Denver on Venice Theatre’s MainStage.

Because of positive audience feedback, Producing Director Allan Kollar invited Becker back again to entertain audiences with three performances on Sunday, March 10 at 8 p.m. and Monday, March 11 at 3 and 8 p.m.

Sarasota, Florida -- Anyone who enjoys spontaneous dancing is in luck. 

Friday, March 1, at 7 p.m., students and families from the NewGate School and members of the Fuzion Dance Artists will performing a collaborative dance choreographed to the song "DO RE MI."

Both New Gate School and Fuzion Dance Artists will be participating in the upcoming 36 Hour Giving Challenge. This is a philanthropic event held annually by the Manatee and Sarasota Community Foundations. 

The flash mob will be held on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch.

Sarasota County to Designate "Viva Florida 500"

Sarasota, Florida- 2013 marks the 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de Leon's arrival to Florida's east coast. 

On Tuesday, February 26, the County will host a ceremony in honor of their participation in the Viva Florida 500 celebration, a state wide initiative designed to commemorate Florida's rich heritage and diverse cultural history.

The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. at the Sarasota County Administration Center, 1660 Ringling Blvd. Sarasota.

A classically influenced singer/songwriter, LoMonaco brings his expansive repertoire of over 1,000 songs to the stage at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14.

Riverview High School Kiltie Band to perform Sousa Concert

Sarasota, Florida -- Here's your chance to see Riverview High School's Kiltie Band perform.

On Feb. 1, the band will take part in its annual Sousa Concert. The 90-minute show will take place at the Riverview Performing Arts Center at RHS, starting at 7 p.m.

Spectators will hear John Philip Sousa's best known pieces including "The Washington Post," "Kind Cotton," and "The Stars and Stripes Forever."
