Man pleads guilty for flying plane drunk

Sarasota, Florida -- A 28-year-old Sarasota man pleaded guilty to operating a carrier plane while under the influence of alcohol.

According to evidence presented in court, on Deb. 8, 2012, Philip Lavoie was the pilot and lone occupant of Flight 840 for Flight Express -- an air cargo company based in Orlando -- which departed from Greensboro, North Carolina and was on the way back to Tampa.

Business owner charged with grand theft

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested a business owner for allegedly taking money for work he never did.

Sarasota deputies say 39-year-old Matthew Nemeth, of Bradenton, took thousands of dollars from a customer without ever doing the work he was hired to do.

Sarasota, Florida -- In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the Elder Abuse Committee will be hosting the 2nd annual educational forum for community members and professionals on elder fraud and exploitation.

The event will be held on Friday, June 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army Fellowship Hall on 1701 South Tuttle Avenue.

Information will be provided on topics of the reality of elder fraud, how to identify potential abuse, available resources, the legal process of handling fraud and exploitation cases and more.

Sarasota Police searching for burglar

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota Police Detectives need help identifying a burglary suspect who is caught on camera stealing wicker chairs and foot stools. 

The burglary happened between June 7 and 8 in the 3000 block of Fruitville Road. 

Detectives are trying to identify the white male suspect. Anyone with any information is asked to call Detective Darrell Nixon at (941) 954-7078. 

Detectives: DNA connects man to food mart burglary

Sarasota County, Florida -- Deputies have arrested an Osprey teen after blood found at the scene of a business burglary connected him to the crime.

In January 2012, police say two suspects smashed the glass at KC Key Food Mart on West Albee Road in Nokomis, entered the store and stole more than $1,000 worth of merchandise.

Police investigate 3 vehicle burglaries at Sarasota park

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota Police Department detectives are investigating several vehicle burglaries that occurred on June 6 at a local park.

Police say in all three burglaries that occurred around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Arlington Park, the victim's purses were left in plain view in the vehicle. The windows were smashed and the purses were taken. 

All three vehicle burglaries happened in about a one minute time frame.   Police suspect the silver vehicle, either a smaller SUV or crossover-type vehicle, in the picture above is involved.

FHP looking for hit and run car

Sarasota, Florida -- Police are looking for a black Honda that hit a car and drove away from the scene of the crash.

On June 7, around 10:30 a.m., a black Honda CRV with a white, female driver was traveling northbound on Honore Avenue.

A silver Hyundai Sonata was southbound on Honore Avenue. The black Honda CRV swerved over into the silver Hyundai's lane of travel and the silver Hyundai's left side.

The black Honda CRV continued to drive away from the scene of the crash. No one in the Hyundai Sonata was injured.
