Jewelry Store Burglary Investigation

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an overnight burglary at a jewelry store in the Venice Village Shoppes.

The owner of Sugar’s Karats in Diamonds and Gold, 4113 Tamiami Trail South, called deputies at around 10:30 a.m., to report a burglary. Apparently the suspect or suspects came in through the roof and stole an undetermined amount of cash and jewelry.

Women in Sarasota burglary ring receive jail sentences

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reports the four women arrested last year as part of a crime ring have pleaded guilty and were sentenced to a variety of charges.

Investigators say on November 2012, a group of four women was arrested for taking part in more than 30 burglaries in Sarasota. The women received various sentences based on their involvement.

Man tries to steal lawnmower with bicycle

Sarasota, Florida -- Police have arrested a man who tried to steal a lawnmower by pulling it with his bicycle.

Sarasota Police officers say on Sunday, June 23, a man saw Michael Barwick enter the carport of his neighbor's home. Minutes later, Barwick walked out of the carport pushing a lawnmower. 

Barwick, 53, then tied the lawnmower to a string and attached it to his bicycle. As Barwick biked away, the neighbor called the Sarasota Police Department who caught up with Barwick.

Sarasota woman sought for grand theft

Sarasota, Florida -- Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department are looking for a woman charged with grand theft.

Police describe 21-year-old Chelsea M. Taylor, of Sarasota, as 5'3", 110 lbs with blonde hair and green eyes.

Taylor has been charged with grand theft of more than $300 but less than $5,000.

Fingerprints on soda can help detectives catch burglar

North Port, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested a North Port man who was identified by fingerprints left at the scene of a crime.

Sarasota Sheriff's detectives say early Tuesday morning, someone broke into a 91-year-old woman's home on Lord Street in Englewood. During their investigation, deputies discovered the suspect had left a soda can on the workbench in the woman's garage before using a chisel to pry open the door to the home and steal items from the living room, kitchen and bedroom while she slept.

Ex-school worker accused of molesting children again

Venice, Florida - A school is supposed to be a safe place, but two young girls who attended aftercare at Taylor Ranch Elementary have now reported being sexually molested by a school worker.

The girls say back in 2011 when they were in kindergarten and first grade, aftercare employee Tyler Kuntz touched their privates. The girls say it happened on the playground and inside the building.

Sarasota man wanted for dealing in stolen property

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota Police Department detectives are looking for a Sarasota man wanted for dealing in stolen property, defrauding a pawnbroker and grand theft.

Nineteen-year-old Joshua Michael Furr is described as a white male, 6'1", with unknown weight, black hair and blue eyes.
