Man exposes himself to kids at Lido Beach hotel

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota Police officers is asking for the public's help identifying a man who reportedly exposed himself to children at a hotel in Lido Beach Sunday afternoon.

The grandmother of two young girls told officers the girls were playing ping pong in the game room of the Limetree Beach Resort around 4:15 p.m. when they say a man came near them while he was masturbating and cursed at them.

Loaded handgun found in hotel garbage can

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a loaded handgun that was found in a hotel garbage can on July 5.

Officers say the gun was found by a maid in a garbage can in one of the hallways of the Regency Inn in the 4200 block of North Tamiami Trail. The handgun had a round in the chamber and a magazine with 16 other rounds. 

Investigators say the handgun was reported stolen in Manatee County on July 1.

Man shot twice while sitting on his porch

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that left a man in serious condition July 3.

Officers say around 2 a.m. Wednesday, Markus Jackson was sitting on the porch in the 1700 block of Gregg Court when an unknown African-American man walked up and shot Jackson on the porch twice and fled.

Officers responded along with K-9 units and canvassed the area but couldn't find the shooter. Jackson, 26, was Bayflighted to a hospital with injuries.

1 arrested, another sought in restaurant robbery

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota Sheriff's deputies have arrested one man and are still looking for another who robbed a restaurant on the evening of July 2.

Deputies say the two men walked into Ho's Garden Restaurant on 17th Street around 4:20 p.m. and asked for cash from the owner. When the owner refused, one of the men grabbed her and held her while the other tried to open the register. The men then fled on foot while a witness called 911.

The owner was not injured and no weapons were used or implied.

10 Sarasota stores cited for selling alcohol to minors

Sarasota, Florida -- With school out and the holiday weekend coming up, you would think stores would be extra vigilant about ID'ing people trying to buy alcohol. Well, that wasn't the case for 10 local stores who were cited for selling alcohol to a minor.

During the recent undercover operation, the following businesses were cited and the clerks were given a misdemeanor Notice to Appear.

Police: Paralegal steals electronics to pay for drugs

Sarasota, Florida -- A man was arrested July 3 after police say he admitted to stealing boxes of expensive electronics from different Walmart stores over the past few weeks to trade for drugs.

On June 26, a loss prevention officer from the store on Cattlemen Road called deputies about a man who tried to leave the store with a 55-inch LED TV and a home theater system. There was a brief physical altercation when employees tried to stop him but the man fled on foot. Loss prevention recognized the man as a suspect in another case for which they had a vehicle tag number.

Social media, public's help solves 3 cases

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota Police Department says they've made arrests in three cases over the last month thanks to help from the public, social and TV/print media.
