Sarasota County, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office conducts monthly saturation patrols to remove dangerous, uninsured or impaired drivers from local roadways to keep motorists safe.

Because of our commitment to keep the public aware of these ongoing education and enforcement efforts, results are provided at the end of each month and dates for the next month’s activity are announced.

Man arrested for stealing thousands from mother

Sarasota, Florida -- A man was arrested Thursday for stealing money from his mother's bank account to feed his $600 a day pain pill addiction.

Sarasota County Sheriff's deputies say earlier this month, Michael Dion took his 72-year-old mother to the bank and asked to withdraw more than $12,000 from her IRA.

His mother appeared confused but told bank staff to do whatever her son said. She admitted she did not understand what was going on.

Volunteer HS band instructor arrested for sexually assaulting student

Venice, Florida -- A volunteer band instructor for Venice High School has been accused of sexually victimizing a 14-year-old student.

Venice Police officers say a school resource officer received a complaint from the school administration about a student being sexually assaulted.

The victim told investigators she was inappropriately touched by 18-year-old Johnathan Ranew on Oct. 29 while in a car parked in a Venice Regional Medical Center parking lot.

INVESTIGATORS: Bad dog breeder going to jail

SARASOTA, Florida -- A dog breeder at the center of a 10 News investigation is headed to jail after convictions on multiple breeding-related charges.

Sherrie Rouse was the subject of a February investigation into puppy mills and the sale of sick pets. She faced so many charges from so many victims that state prosecutors decided to escalate the charges to the felony level.

Man high on "spice" batters, soaks infant in Windex

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 25-year-old man for child abuse and other charges after a six-month-old girl was battered and soaked in Windex.

Deputies were called to Sarasota Memorial Hospital Sunday morning after the infant was brought in with facial and head trauma. The baby's mother and a witness explained that the little girl was sleeping in her crib when they went to bed Saturday night, but they woke up Sunday morning to the sound of her crying harder than normal. 

Four hospitalized after smoking homemade "spice"

Sarasota, Florida -- Three men and a woman were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital after smoking homemade "spice" that was sprayed with formaldehyde. 

Sarsota Police say just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, officers on patrol at Five Points Park noticed a man face down and unresponsive near the center of the park. As they went to go investigate, almost simultaneously, three more people collapsed -- two men and a woman. 

Suspects in 2 Sarasota robberies sought

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota Police Department is asking anyone with information on two robberies early Saturday morning to contact them as soon as possible.

Investigators say the robberies occurred within an hour of each other but it's not known at this time if these two crimes are connected.

The first robbery occurred near the intersection of Bon Air Avenue and Indiana Lane around 12:37 a.m. The victims told officers they were walking home from a local pub when a gray sports car, possibly a two-door, pulled up to speak with them.
