Sarasota, Florida -- In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the Elder Abuse Committee will be hosting the 2nd annual educational forum for community members and professionals on elder fraud and exploitation.

The event will be held on Friday, June 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army Fellowship Hall on 1701 South Tuttle Avenue.

Information will be provided on topics of the reality of elder fraud, how to identify potential abuse, available resources, the legal process of handling fraud and exploitation cases and more.

According to the FBI, older and senior citizens should be aware of fraud and people looking to take advantage.  This is for various reasons including the fact that older and senior citizens have a “nest egg” of money for retirement, they have excellent credit, and they’ve been raised to be polite and trusting.

Speakers at the forum will include:

  • Detective Jack Carter, Sarasota Police Department
  • Edwin Boyer, Esquire, Boyer Jackson, P.A.
  • Erika Quartermaine, Assistant State Attorney, White Collar Crimes
  • Adult Protective Services
  • Community organizations and more

Continental breakfast and boxed lunch will be provided.
