2 arrested in attack of man, pregnant woman | Crime
Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota Police have arrested two men in connection with the attack of two people in the parking lot of a Shell gas station Sunday evening.
Police say around 6:10 p.m., one of the men got into a fight with Travis Quintenz outside the gas station at 1801 S. Tamiami Trail. During the altercation, Stacey Moore tried to help him and was also injured.
Quintenz, 43, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and 41-year-old Moore, who is 6-8 weeks pregnant, was taken to Blake Medical Center.
Officers were given a picture of the suspect taken from the adjacent Exxon gas station's surveillance footage so they could be on the lookout for him.
Around 5:40 a.m. one of the officers spotted the man, later identified as Jason Ritenour, inside a McDonald's on S. Washington Boulevard and called in for backup.
Ritenour, who was there with another man, was wearing the same clothes as those seen in the surveillance video. When police questioned his friend, Courtland Johnson, he said Ritenour told him he had a confrontation with a biker at the Shell station earlier that night.
Both men were arrested and taken to the police department for further investigation.
Ultimately, Ritenour, 29, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and Johnson was charged with aggravated battery for allegedly helping beat up Moore.
Sarasota Police say this isn't the first time Ritenour has beat up a pregnant woman. In 2004, he was convicted for aggravated battery of a pregnant juvenile in Charlotte County. Johnson was also convicted for felony battery in Sarasota County in 2012.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact Detective Laster at 941-954-7070.
