Women work together to steal 4 diamond rings

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota Police Department is searching for two women believed to have worked together to steal four diamond rings.

The women are believed to work together to steal the four diamond rings from Silverberg Jewelry Store on 3800 South Tamiami Trail. They entered the store around 4:40 p.m. on Feb. 22, and one woman distracted store employees while the other reached behind an unsecured display and stole four diamond rings.

Fight leads to stabbing at Sarasota library

Sarasota, Florida -- An altercation between two men turned violent Friday morning when one stabbed the other in front of horrified witnesses.

Sarasota Police say around 11:10 a.m., Andrew Timshin and Marcus Colbert were in the computer lab area on the second floor when they got into a fight. At some point, Timshin stabbed Colbert in the right shoulder and left side of his neck.

When police arrived, Timshin, 27, was found sitting near the computers and was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Deputies: 13-year-old attacks jogger with knife

Englewood, Florida -- Sarasota Sheriff's deputies have arrested a 13-year-old Englewood boy for attacking a jogger with a knife Tuesday evening.

Deputies say the victim was jogging near Lemon Avenue and Bayshore Drive around 5:40 p.m., when a teen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt ran up behind him and slashed his neck with a sharp object. The victim tried to pursue his attacker, but the boy threw the 15-inch bread knife at him and fled. The jogger had a neighbor call for help and was treated at Venice Regional Bayfront Health and released.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota Police detectives made one of their biggest undercover drug busts -- ever!

The department teamed up with the DEA to intercept phone calls that lead to information on narcotics coming into the area.

Operation Sarasota Cartel II brought in $115,000 in seized currency, 12 kilos of cocaine with a street value of more than $500 million, along with sports cars and trucks.

Sarasota Co. moves closer to banning designer drugs

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County is one step close to banning the use and sale of "fake weed" or "synthetic marijuana" with familiar names including spice and K2. And now there is a new "herbal" drug called Kratom which experts say can be more powerful.

Sarasota plastic surgeon arrested for practicing with revoked license

Sarasota, Florida -- After numerous complaints to The Florida Department of Health, a Sarasota plastic surgeon is behind bars Tuesday for practicing medicine with a revoked license.

In October 2013, an FDOH investigator notified the Sarasota Police Department Narcotics Unit after researching complaints into Dr. Leonard Rubinstein's medical office at 1805 Siesta Drive.

Sarasota County, Florida -- Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight is pleased to announce that two members of his command staff graduated today from The Florida Sheriffs Institute Commanders Academy.

Captain Paul Richard, commander of the Criminal Investigations Bureau, and Captain Jon Goetluck, commander of the Support Services Bureau, have now successfully completed the Academy, held at the Florida Public Safety Institute in Havana, Florida.
