Sarasota, Florida - Mote Marine Laboratory was declared Cultural Organization of the Year this week byThe Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce during the 23rd annual Frank G. Berlin, Sr. Small Business Awards. The awards ceremony honors winners in seven different categories.

Crosswalk improvements planned for Siesta Key Village

Sarasota, Florida - The Sarasota County Commission has approved a plan to improve pedestrian safety at Siesta Key Village. The Commission approved a plan to buy and install light emitting diode (LED) crosswalk bollards for the Village.

The 14 decorative signs will be installed at seven crosswalks in the village. They're designed to enhance crosswalk and pedestrian visibility. The project is estimated to cost $72,000.

The original musical variety show written by Venice Theatre’s playwright-in-residence Ronald Myroup, chronicles important guests of “The Ed Sullivan Show." Over the 22 years that the show was on air, many unforgettable stars appeared. From Julie Andrews, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis to Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnaz, this pioneering television show was truly the epitome of entertainment.

Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.

Volunteers needed for National Association of Letter Cerriers' food drive

North Port, Florida -- The National Association of Letter Carriers will host a Food Drive on Saturday, May 11.

North Port residents are encouraged to place non-perishable food in a donation bag by their mailbox for pickup.

Volunteers are needed to help sort the food that is collected. The food will be delivered to the VFW Post 8203 off Pan American Boulevard and then sorted to be distributed to local food banks. 

Volunteers are needed for a 10:30 a.m. shift and a 2:00 p.m. shift.
