The event will be hosted by Pocket Rockets Poker League on Sunday, June 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Payouts and gifts include dog track chips or gift cards.

Sarastoa, Florida -- A team of 26 volunteers from Sarasota County presented local success stories this past weekend at the 2013 All America City Award competition hosted by the National Civic League in Denver, Colorado.

Town commissioners approve urban planning questions

Longboat Key, Florida - There have been plenty of questions about the questions, but they have finally been approved. Commissioners for the Town of Longboat Key have approved a list of questions to send to the Urban Land Institute.

The Town is contracting with ULI to provide help in long-range planning. Representatives with ULI will come to the area in October. The ULI consultants will use the questions to help define their mission.

Citizens Law Enforcement Academy graduation

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office graduated another 25 people last night from the 39th class of the Citizens Law Enforcement Academy (CLEA).

CLEA is held one night a week for 10 weeks and gives citizens an inside look at Sheriff’s Office operations. The course includes a tour of the jail and courthouse, and activities such as a ride-along with patrol, conducting felony traffic stops and firearms training. There are also sessions in law enforcement procedures, criminal investigations, K-9, SWAT and Forensics, each taught by a subject matter expert.

North Port, Florida -- North Port Soccer will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, June 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Buffalo Wings and Rings. 

There will be a chance to win a door prize with your entry ticket and there will also be raffles and a 50/50. 

Admission is a $5 donation.

Tuttle Ave., Sarasota.
