County Commission supports local job creation for three businesses

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County Commissioners approved three measures this week to create local jobs and strengthen the county's economic base.

Tervis Tumbler in Venice was granted a tax exemption extension for a second year, following last year's exemption of $12 million in new construction and equipment for a pledge of 154 jobs by 2016.

The county says it can waive property taxes for 10 years for private companies that build or expand their facilities to create jobs. The property tax program is part of Sarasota County's economic development incentive program.

SARASOTA, Florida -- The Sarasota Police Department has released surveillance photos of a robbery that happened Sunday at the CVS Store at 3709 N. Tamiami Trail.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40's. He's 6'1" with a medium build and a shaved head. He was wearing a black t-shirt, shorts, and white tennis shoes when the robbery occured.

Project to help women learn skills needed to run their farms

Sarasota, Florida -- Annie's Project, a national program developed to empower farm and ranch women to be better business partners, is coming to Sarasota.

The seven-week course, taught by UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County faculty, begins Oct. 1 and continues through Nov. 13. The course is limited to 20 participants, and the deadline for registration is Monday, Sept. 24.
