Sarasota, Florida -- The City of Sarasota is embarking on two significant improvement projects this summer which are expected to improve walkability downtown, improve landscaping and create a more user friendly travel experience.  One project will occur downtown and the other in North Sarasota in the Bayou Oaks neighborhood.  Both projects will start Monday, July 8, and both are expected to temporarily impact motorists and pedestrians during the construction period.  Upon completion, though, the City anticipates these tandem projects will improve the overall quality of life i

North Port, Florida -- This year's Business & Community Expo will be on Saturday, June 15.

The event will host business and community vendors promoting their products and services, live performances, entertainment, children activities, food and drinks, free give-a-ways, raffle prizes and much more.

The Business & Community Expo is free to the public to attend.

It will be located at the Gene Matthews Boys & Girls Club, 6851 S. Biscayne Boulevard from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

County sponsors hurricane session for businesses

Sarasota, Florida - No one likes to think about it, but hurricanes are a reality in Florida.

Beach and other business owners can find out how to prepare during a special symposium this month. Emergency managers from both Sarasota and Charlotte counties will present information.

The symposium takes place Thursday, May 16th at the Englewood Chamber Community Room from 5 to 7 p.m.

Sarasota, Florida -- The herons, pelicans and ducks in Sarasota harbor have to make a little room for the new bird-of-the-walk in town: The solar-powered Loon.

The Loon was produced by the Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company based in Rome, NY.

North Port, Florida -- Local residents are encouraged to engage in dialog about the City's financial health. 

The City of North Port will be hosting a series of conversational meetings, called "Community Conversation on Fiscal Sustainability," at the end of march and early April to open dialog and exchanged ideas regards to the coming fiscal year.

Longboat Key, Florida - Offices for the Town of Longboat Key will be closed on Monday, January 21st in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Town Hall will reopen on January 22nd and there is a Town Commission regular workshop meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. on that day.
