Sarasota-Manatee Originals welcomes three new restaurant members

Sarasota County, FL -- The Sarasota-Manatee Originals (SMO), a trade organization comprised of more than 50 independent restaurants from Anna Maria to Venice, FL, welcomed three new member restaurants last week: Aria European, First Street Chop House, and SoMa Diner.

“We warmly welcome our newest member restaurants," says Kate Atkin, SMO's executive director. "These forward-thinking owners and chefs exemplify exactly what The Sarasota-Manatee Originals represents; each strives to preserve our community’s unique culinary heritage while offering inspired cuisine and exemplary service. Their work is a celebration of Southwest Florida’s culinary distinctiveness, and they understand that our regional cuisine is part of what sets us apart from other coastal communities."

She adds that independently owned restaurants are "as integral to the Sarasota-Manatee region's economic picture as are our pristine beaches, wonderful climate and rich cultural amenities. Our restaurant industry is a business—and big business. It’s a vital part of the regional economy."

Giorgio Oldano, chef/owner of the newly opened Aria European in downtown Sarasota, agrees.

“It's clear to me that this community has sophisticated diners who desire culinary creativity. We joined the Originals because it’s an honor to be associated with the best in dining that this area has to offer.”
   
David Arnold, chef/owner at First Street Chop House, says that Original members "represent the best restaurants in southwest Florida. If consumers want to support locally owned—and first-rate—establishments that they look to The Sarasota-Manatee Originals as a resource as to where to go. I definitely want to be associated with a group like that."

Dave Shiplett, chef/owner of SoMa Diner, says he's proud to be part of a movement of chefs and owners who take a locavore approach.

"I'm passionate about using local sustainable produce and meats. So many of my fellow Originals share the same passion. Being a member of the Originals brings me closer to my customers as well as other area restaurateurs. I’m proud to be a part of the Originals family”.
