Venice Theatre announces can't-miss concerts

Venice, Florida -- Before February is over, Venice Theatre will present three more concerts on its MainStage. One of the most sought-after harmony acts in the country, The Legends of Doo Wop, will perform on Sunday and Monday, February 20 & 21. Shows are at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Tickets are $35.

The group features four legendary singers: Tony Passalaqua of the Archies, Tommy Mara from The Crests, Frank Mancuso from The Imaginators, and Steve Horn from The Five Sharks. Dazzling harmonies and plenty of songs from Rock ‘n’ Roll’s Top 100 All-Time Greatest Hits List will keep audiences humming along.

The next weekend brings New Odyssey, an act new to Venice Theatre audiences, along with a returning favorite – Red, Hot & Blue! Back by popular demand after two sell-out shows in December, Red, Hot & Blue is a song and dance troupe out of Branson, MO that takes audiences on a musical journey through the decades from ragtime to rock ‘n’ roll.

Sarasota, FL -- The Sarasota Opera Guild invites the public to its next general meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 9:45 a.m. at the David Cohen Hall at Symphony Center.


The address is 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. 


A coffee and informal social gathering will precede the business meeting.


Afterwards, singers from the Sarasota Opera will perform selections from opera and musical theater.


The meeting is free to the public.

Art Tour delayed until next year

Sarasota, FL -- Organizers for the Sarasota Arts Discovery Tour, scheduled to begin Feb. 18, say the tour has been delayed until next year.


The tour was supposed to attract arts patrons and possible benefactors to the area. Organizers had hoped for about 50 visitors but many had to cancel because of schedule conflicts.


The tour was designed to attract arts lovers from around the country to learn about Sarasota's cultural life.

Longboat Key, FL -- Besides worship and prayers, you may find some toe-tapping going on at the Longboat Island Chapel this Sunday.

The church is holding its annual jazz service.

The 10 a.m. service will feature drummer Al Hixon and some of his usual band mates. With Valentine's Day coming up, the theme of the service is also love.

The interfaith chapel is located at 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

The Siesta Tides Art & Craft Show comes just in time for you to find that special Valentine's gift for your sweetheart.

Vendors from 15 states will be displaying their wares.

The big show takes place from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday on Siesta Key Public Beach.

Lido Key, Florida - After a stormy Tuesday, artists have great weather for the 13th Annual Lido Key Art at the Beach. More than 70 artists and craftspeople from around the country are exhibiting their original works there.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

The popular show is located at 400 Ben Franklin Drive in Sarasota.
