Allyn Gallup presents "Some Wonderful Abstractions"

Sarasota, Florida -- Allyn Gallup Contemporary Art gallery presents “Some Wonderful Abstractions,” featuring paintings and works on paper by Luisa Basnuevo, Michael Kessler, Juri Morioka, Gustavo Ramos Rivera, Yolanda Sanchez, Richard Schemm, Mike Solomon and Valerie Stuart.

The exhibit also features a survey of paintings by Bianca Pratorius with selections from three bodies of work created over 15 years and sculpture by Mary-Ann Prack.

Embracing Our Differences receives Tourist Development Arts grant

Sarasota County, Florida -- The Sarasota County Commission recently awarded Embracing Our Differences a $32,970 Tourist Development Cultural/Arts grant to help fund its 2014 exhibition season, which runs March 30-June 1, 2014, in Sarasota’s Island Park, and May 2-June 1, 2014, at North Port High School. Since 2004, Embracing Our Differences’ annual juried art exhibit has graced downtown Sarasota's bayfront with billboard-sized images created by artists, writers and students from around the world reflecting their interpretation of the message, “enriching lives through diversity.”

Sarasota, Florida - When it comes to tourism, art is a big draw in Sarasota and that's one of the reasons the Sarasota County Commission awarded Art Center Sarasota a $36,733 grant.

King Tide photo exhibition at Mote

King Tide photo exhibition at Mote

Sarasota, Florida  -- Along with the usual exhibits at Mote Marine Aquarium, visitors can now see a photo exhibit called "Chasing the Waves". The exhibit features photographs showing King Tides, which are especially high tides.

Presented in partnership with the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program and the Tampa Bay Estuary program, the goal of the exhibit is to raise awareness about the impact of sea level rise. The displayed photos illustrate what a King Tide can do and how these high tides can mimic the conditions expected to be caused by future sea level rise.

Balalaika Orchestra comes to town!

Sarasota, Florida  -- The Balalaika and Domra Association of America will be in town for the 35th annual convention and Festival Concert from July 7 to July 14.

During this week, musicians from all over the world will meet in Sarasota to participate in workshops on playing, performance, fold-dancing, lectures, concerts and rehearsals that will culminate in the Festival Concert on Saturday, July 13 at the Sarasota Opera House. 

The highlight of the concert will be a 100 piece Russian folk orchestra directed by Svetlana Nikonova.
