Venice Theatre to hold open auditions September 15 & 16

Venice, Florida -- Venice Theatre is seeking four strong singers with a flair for harmony and comedy to perform in the upcoming Cabaret, The Marvelous Wonderettes.  The actors will be playing characters that are in their late teens in Act I and late 20s in Act II.

Auditions are Sunday and Monday, September 15 & 16 at 7:30 p.m. Women must come prepared with 16-32 bars of a song that shows personality and bring sheet music for the accompanist. Using pre-recorded music or singing a cappella is not permitted. Auditioners might also be asked to read from the script. Perusal copies are available by e-mailing rhondasudik@venicestage.com. Director/Choreographer Dennis Clark says, “If time permits, I may teach a simple dance combination, so please wear something comfortable that you can move in.”

Clark is casting the following roles:

BETTY JEAN – The self-anointed clown of the group, always vying for attention from her best friend Cindy Lou. (Alto with strong low range.)

CINDY LOU – The "bad girl" of the group. (Mezzo Soprano with belt. Sings lead on many songs.)

MISSY – The over-achiever of the group, Missy is the one to cover for mistakes and is always ready to jump in and save the day. (Soprano with wide range and very high vocals.)

SUZY – Gum-chewing Suzy is happy-go-lucky, a little giddy and a little silly. She finds great pleasure in everything she does; the sillier it is, the more fun she finds it. (Mezzo Alto with a sweet, soulful sound and big belts.)

Performances of The Marvelous Wonderettes will take place Tuesdays through Sundays December 6-22, 2013 in the Pinkerton Theatre.  More information about auditioning at Venice Theatre is available at www.venicestage.com or by calling the theatre’s administrative offices at (941) 484-4033.
